The University of Strathclyde is located at the heart of Glasgow’s city center. It is one of the largest institutions in Scotland with over 15,000 students representing more than 90 countries. In recent years, Glasgow has become one of the most attractive urban centers in Great Britain offering a vibrant theater life, independent music scene, opera, and many other cultural activities. Once known as “The Second City of the British Empire,” Glasgow remains the best-preserved Victorian city in Great Britain. Glasgow is also located less than an hour from the Scottish Highlands, which provides many recreational opportunities.

Program Partner

Founded in 1947, the University of Strathclyde was recently awarded UK University of the Year. Its business school is one of the largest in Europe, serving more than 3,000 full-time graduate and undergraduate students.

Program Dates

  • Spring: Mid-January to late May
  • Fall: Mid-September to mid-December

Academic Overview

  • Required orientation
  • Business classes in English with domestic and international students
  • 15 IU credits which is 3 classes in business or global studies
  • Program will satisfy the IU World Language and Culture Requirement

To be eligible for the Strathclyde Business School program, you must:

  • Be a business student on the Bloomington campus making normal degree progress
  • Be in at least your third full-time semester of college
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have (or will complete by the start of the program) E201, E202 and the Business Integrative Core

Complete eligibility and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the IU Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of the match between the program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during the program period are not eligible.

Housing Accommodations

Students are housed in university student residences which are within walking distance to classes, local shops, laundry facilities, and Glasgow’s efficient and affordable transportation system. Student residences include both single and shared flats which are equipped with internet access, shared or private bathrooms, and shared kitchen facilities.  

Estimated Program Costs

  • Fee paid to IU: (academic fees, health insurance)
    • Indiana resident: $4,598
    • Nonresident: $15,669

A $500 deposit will be due to the IU Office of Overseas Studies within two weeks of acceptance.

  • Housing: $2,900
  • Meals: $2,100
  • Books/supplies: $300
  • Local transportation: $250
  • Miscellaneous: $1,000

Note: Airfare, personal expenses, and vacation travel are additional costs.
